Understanding What health care reform Is
The government has a role to play in health care reform and they make certain decisions that affect health care in America. Unlike Britain and Canada the US government is not going to take over privately run health businesses or hospitals for that matter. In Canada and Britain, doctors work for state hospitals and this will not happen in America.
The US government wants to be involved in assisting people to buy insurance rather than be liable for the bills as is the case in Canada. In America, health care reform is provided for citizens by the employers. Health exchange programs are in place for people who buy insurance so that they are able to better compare prices and plans.
Government intends to regulate the insurance companies much more efficiently with the new health care reform bill. Companies will have to provide certain levels of cover and this will include preventative care. By 2014 companies will no longer be able to refuse customers who have pre-existing conditions from buying insurance.
People who do not have this kind of cover will be fined. Citizens who earn minimum wages will pay capped premiums. Employees who earn eighty eight thousand dollars per year will have the premium capped at nine and a half percent of this income. Fines for not having cover will be in the region of six hundred and ninety five dollars per person per year. There will be special cases exceptions such as hardship and this rule will not apply to these people.
Large companies can be subject to fines if they do not provide insurance for their employees. Congress is committed to encouraging large companies to provide cover for their employees. Fines for these companies will be quite high.
In terms health care reform, most people will not notice a significant difference in the premiums that they are paying. People who purchase insurance privately, could well notice that their premiums are increasing. Such polices will have far better benefits than the lower income policies that are state assisted.
